Hawagala is a very beautiful mountain range belonging to Sabaragamuwa Province.Popular local landmarks such as Adara Kanda, NonPareil Estate, and Hortain Plains surround Hawagala.Hawagala mountain,which is about 4 km from BelihulOya town,is 1330 meters above sea level.Hewagala Hill is an easy hill to climb and it is a short trek of about 3km.
At a distance of 3km from Pambahinna village,the starting point for climbing Hawagala mountain is located on the road leading to Pahanthuda.If you are coming from Colombo,you can reach Hewagala via Belihuloya.

Many different legends about Havagala are popular among the villagers. The most famous legend was Havagala when King Ravana went to Patuwakahinna Kanda ( a mountain adjacent to Havagala) to hunt a rabbit.
In the past, Hawagala was known as “Saha Gala”. But soon this was called by the name of Hagala.

After reaching the top of Hawagala mountain which is about 1330 meters above sea level, Samanala Lake,Sabaragamuwa University, Badulla Road on one side and Patupawakahinna Hill,Dorapeliagala Hill,Horton Plain on the other side.Lokanta and Belihuloya can also be clearly seen on other side of the mountain ranges like Detanagala.
The weather at Mount Hawagala,which is a great place for overnight camping is amazing.The beauty of the Hawagala mountain at sunrise in the morning is indescribable.Hawagala is one of the most beautiful mountains that every traveler who loves nature must climb.Hiking Hawagala provides magnificent views of Sabaragamuwa province's lush greenery.
