Hiking is one of our favorite adventures. Amazing treks to mountain peaks, always fascinating and breathtaking. It’s a bizarre sensation for those of us who appreciate natural scenery to see it as an adventure. Walking in “Katusu Konda '' or Knife Edge '' at the end of the Hanthana mountain range is an adventure. It was named after a tall mountain peak with a narrow top resembling the back of a lizard. A very dangerous steep slope is visible looking down from here. You cannot be certain about your life if you slip or fall.

Katusu Konda is located about 136 kilometers east of Colombo in central Sri Lanka. Kandy-Peradeniya can be reached by either road or rail. However, because of the scenic beauty, most travelers prefer to travel by rail. Rail travel will fascinate those who prefer photography the most.

You can access Katusu Konda from Sarasavigama near Peradeniya University. To get to Sarasawigama, drive about 7 kilometers from Peradeniya. You can take the bus until you arrive at Sarasawigama. If you want to go further, you must use a three-wheeler or walk. Sarasavigama to Upland is another 4 kilometers. A few small houses can be found about 2 kilometers uphill from the small temple and shop in Upland..Only after passing through those small houses will you find the footpath to the mountain. The demography in the surrounding area of Katusu konda mostly comprised Tamils.

However, Hanthana and Katusu Konda offer an unforgettable hiking and camping experience. We must say this hike is a difficult one and a dangerous one.
You should climb straight up this footpath. It is a very tiring journey when the sun is shining. Anyway, once we reach the top of the mountain as well as complete this difficult journey, the view that appears will wash away all of our efforts. Furthermore, the wind is strong enough to blow us away. The wind helps the body heal.
From the top of this mountain, you can see Kandy city, the Peacocks Hills, Kabaragala, Alagalla, the Knuckles Mountain Range, and Hunnasgiriya. Ura Rock is also located beyond the Katusu Konda. On top of the mountain, there is also a small natural rock cave.
