Everyone of you may already know that Sri Lanka is famous for 3S’s. Yeah it is Sea, Sand and Sun. Our wonderful tropical island has the most beautiful sandy beaches in the world and many tourists visit Sri Lanka to experience this beauty. However, this beach is quite different as it is hidden from a jungle that covers the hill.

Jungle beach is very famous among both locals and foreigners and the beach could get crowded sometimes. But once you get to the beach after the little journey in forest and hill, you will realize that you are in one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

This is calm and an ideal place to swim because water is not wavy much. You could enjoy spending the whole day in jungle beach with its golden sandy shore and rich biodiversity background. Watching the sunset from the shore peacefully in the evening would be the best feeling in the world.
You could experience this beautiful scenery after one-hour drive from Colombo on the Southern Expressway. The beach is located nearly 7.5km from the main city, Galle and a few kilometers from Rumassala, Unawatuna area. The other importance of this location is Rumassala hill. The area is rich in fauna and medicinal plants and there are many birds and butterfly species in the mountain. And also, this area is very rich in marine life and coral.
This place has historic importance as well. If you are interested in the Rama-Ravana tale, this location has its own routes to the famous legend as well. According to Ramayana, the Rumassala mountain is a part of Himalaya range which was brought by “Hanuman” to heal the injured Lakshmana, the brother of Lord Rama in the battle between King Ravana and Lord Rama. The legend goes on to say that Hanuman lifted and carried one of the Himalayan mountains back to the country and dropped a large chunk in Rumassala and another in Ritigala. It is said that both mountains have the same variety of medicinal plants and herbs which is also found in Himalaya.
With its own beauty and legend, the jungle beach in Rumassala is a must visited beach in Sri Lanka. Syncing with nature, this sandy beach brings the best experience to all the travelers with its uniqueness. You should definitely try this wonderful beach and also try to protect the environment around it when you are there. Bring back all the plastic and polythene with you when you return from the beach. Leave only your footprints in that golden shore!
