Idalgashinna Railway Station is situated in Idalgashinna which is a small village in the Badulla district of Uva Province,Sri Lanka.Located at an altitude of about 1,615 meters above sea level and located in the Haputale-Namanukula mountain range. Idalgashinna is station NO 68 on the upcountry railway line. It is a popular hiking area and is home to one of the most scenic treks in Sri Lanka, the railway track extends from Idalgashinna Station to Ohiya Station.
The location can be accessed through Thangamale tea estate off the Haputale-Welimada road via Bowawatta-Idalgashinna road.

Due to the fact that the Walawe Ganga Valley is on the right side and the Mahaweli River Valley is on the left, Idalgashinna station is located between border lines of the Mahaweli Ganga Basin and Walawe Ganga Basin so when the rain fall rain water drops down to these basins from both ends of station roof marking a exceptional scenario.
A footpath has been created due to frequent travel to reach the upper mountain area of Idalgashinne, where there is no fixed road. You can walk along this footpath and reach the upper mountain area of Idalgashinne. Being covered in fog and cloudy sky with the fall of little drizzles throughout the evening time is a very common thing in Idalgashinna.

Hiking Idalgashinna is quite challenging and reaching the top gives amazing views of several mountains including Kalupahana, Wangedigala, Balathuduwa, Gommoliya and the sensational view of Bambarakanda Waterfall.

If you're a fan of railroad hiking, you can do a hike to Ohiya railway station which will be quite espetacular thing to do as a railroad hiker in Sri Lanka. As you get a chance to walk in isolation,while enjoying the zips of the beauty enchanting scenery along with the wide mountain range which lays on both sides of the railway track.
